"We have received the notice of renewal from State Farm and paid the full amount providing coverage from June 1, 2025 through June 1, 2026. We had auto insurance with State Farm for 19 years with no claims, accidents or violations and was up for renewal on May 22, 2025. They had increased our premium by 30% . We contacted State Farm and inquired the reasoning , they claimed the cost of repairing cars was the reason. The total premium increase since the car was new was 50%. The value of our car has actually decreased by 50%. We decided to look at other options. We did so and got car insurance with GEICO for more than half the price of State Farm for identical coverage We informed them on the phone and via email that we changed our car insurance due to significant increase on their end. On June 26, 2025, we received a letter from State Farm about our car insurance cancellation. In a separate mail, we received a cancellation notice for our homeowners insurance retroactive to May 22, 2025 with a refund check. We had no prior knowledge or notification from State Farm intending to cancel our homeowners insurance. We had paid them for the full year through June 2026. We immediately looked for homeowners insurance on the same day that we received State Farm”s cancellation notice with AllState and purchased insurance effective the same day, June 26, 2025. Their letter indicated cancellation from 5/22/25 with the refund check a bit more covering the few days we had paid for home insurance last year. Their letter with refund check and cancellation was issued on June 16, 2025. We received the letter on June 26, 2025. The letter did not provide any explanation for dropping us as required by IL Insurance Law. The State Farm unlawful act created a gap in our insurance coverage which was problematic with our mortgage company. We filed a complaint with Illinois Department of Insurance ( IDOI ). This resulted for State Farm to call us and offered to fix the problem and they did so indicating our insurance was cancelled by mistake. A good agent would have called to remedy the situation, but a bad lousy agent, LUIS GARCIA of Lisle, IL ignored us. We hoped for IDOI to fine State Farm and the agent Luis Garcia, to prevent them to do the unlawful cancelling for others. According to IDOI options is to contact an insurance attorney for the stress and hard time the insurance company and the agent have caused. In my opinion, If you have auto and homeowner insurance with State Farm should research your coverage and premium with other companies to find same coverage for much less. As a result of our change we saved $2,000.00 per year for same coverage of auto and homeowner insurance."
